As a surprise I took the 19th off from work and we drove 3 hours North-East-ish to Ellie's childhood home town of Berri (via towns with fun names like Truro and Nuriootpa). We stayed the night with Nanna Lambert and enjoyed a beautiful dinner at the Berri Hotel over looking the Murray. Again, for the visual people of the world, the picture below shows from left: Poppa Scholz, Nanna Lambert, Aunty Debbie, Ellie, and Nanna Scholz.
Ellie also enjoyed the company of Ross and Cathy (uncle and aunt) and their three girls Shannon, Jordan, and Regan! What luck to have almost everyone in the Riverland at once!
The next morning we enjoyed what I hear is a grand-child tradition at Nanna Lambert's - a bowl of Cocoa Pops! We also indulged in fistfuls of apricots! Delicious! To top it off Ellie even received a phone call from her Mamma and Kong all the way from China!
After breakfast we made a break for Renmark - more specifically - Renmark Bakery! Perhaps the best Bakery in, dare I say it- South Australia - no...Australia! Perhaps even the world. A bold call. Sure, it's a little out of the way...but it's worth it! Though we haven't sampled the hot food, the sweets are magnificent! Ellie and I gorged ourselves on what could have been the biggest Chelsea buns in the known Universe. Very tasty!
We then made our way to Nanna Scholz's in Barmera. Nanna is the kind care giver of our only Child, Elmo. Unfortunately, Jordan gets itchy around him, so Nanna has kindly volunteered her services. Ellie and I were very excited to see the 'Mo. His eyes look a little scary from the flash in the camera, but we can assure you he's a very calm cat. A date hotline would summarise Elmo much like this: "A cool cat who is often interested in staring at walls and finding the ground."
As we arrived back in Adelaide at about 4:15pm we quickly got ready for another evening out. Ellie donned some spunky new pants she bought the week before. We enjoyed a lovely meal at Kwik Stix in North Adelaide and were lucky enough to be joined by (from Left) Rikki, Kristin, Josh Bosh, Tyson and Rachael (absent: the Sims in the stroller behind).
Afterward Rikki and Kristin were kind enough to have us all back to their house. We played a great game of Carcassonne with 'The Tower' extension. Tyson played a fantastic game for a 'beginner', being pipped at the post by Rikki only one point in front. 'Who said I was paranoid?'.
Ellie may find the motivation to make comment on her own views of her birthday - but I thought this would make eveyrone feel somewhat 'in the loop' with what we did until she does so.
